Anti Carburising compound

AntiCarb CS (Blue coloured) is highly effective thinner based masking compound for gas carburising / carbonitriding in heat treatment furnaces for case depths up to 1.5mm. 

This compound is generally suggested for protection of threads from carburising or for parts / areas which cannot be subjected to sand / shot blasting for post cleaning.
AstroMet AntiCarb CS allows the following:

» Most suitable to protect threads.
» Mechanical reworking after case hardening.
» Improvement on strength of thin walled components or those with weak profiles.
» Perfect or flawless weldability after case hardening.
» Reduction of hardening cracks and warps.
» Prevention of tinder formation.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

JOB PREPARATION :-  

No special job preparation is required. Just ensure jobs free of oil, grease, dirt or moisture preferably by cleaning with solvents. They may be washed in alkaline hot water, but must be rinsed and completely dried prior to coating.

APPLICATION :

The coating is supplied in ready to use for brushing. Use flat brush of soft fine hairs for brushing.. However, it can be sprayed or jobs can be dipped in solution depending upon application. Dilution with our Diluent SCS is recommended for best results. To maintain ingredients in suspension, stir frequently before and during application.
Thin and uniform coating should applied by desired method. Coating thickness should be considered insufficient, if base metal is seen thro’ the coating. However excessive thick coating should be avoided since coating may prone to cracking. One single coat of AntiCarb CS is generally sufficient for case depths up to 1.0 mm. For case depths above this, two coating layers are suggested. Allow components to dry for at least 30-45 minutes between two coatings.

DRYING :-  

Most efficient way of drying is to suspend parts in suitable way in well ventilated atmosphere. Generally 30-45 minutes drying time is sufficient but the same depends upon number of factors such as humidity in surrounding atmosphere, coating thickness etc.. However shop floor “Hand Test “ may be carried out. Coating when dried must be firm and not spongy. Coated jobs may be stored for long period without damage provided they are stored in clean and dry atmosphere. But in normal practice, coating is carried out, just few hours prior to loading in the furnace.

REMOVAL:- 

AntiCarb CS coating generally do not need any special removal process after heat treatment. Residue may be washed off with hot water rinse or if necessary, by simple mechanical means.

SAFETY :-  

AntiCarb CS coating should be used with adequate ventilation. Wash hands before eating or smoking. If taken internally induce vomiting, consult a physician immediately.
